When will driving lessons resume?

News Update

  • The government has announced that driving lessons can resume in England from 4th July.
  • In a separate announcement, the DVSA confirmed that in England, theory tests will resume from 4th July and driving tests will resume from 22nd July.
  • RED driving Instructors will resume on Monday 6th July.

What will happen when driving lessons restart?

Instructor’s diaries are going to fill up fast once driving lessons are allowed to resume.

Every day in the United Kingdom, nearly 2,000 people turn 17. While the UK has been in lockdown, 4,500 driving tests have had to be put on hold every day. That’s a lot of lessons to get through and a lot of new learners to teach.

When RED restarts, we will be prioritising the allocation of space in our instructors’ diaries to those who have pre-paid for lessons in advance.

You can become a pre-paid customer by purchasing a PRIORITY PASS VOUCHER, which means that you will be at the front of the queue to book driving lessons.

As a voucher holder, you’ll also have access to our best introductory driving lesson prices and course package discounts.

Your voucher will also give you free access to our award-winning Road Brain Trainer, which is proven to boost your chance of passing the practical driving test by 14%.

Your voucher can be redeemed against lessons in due course via your online MyRED account or over the phone when our Contact Centre re-opens.

The steps we’re taking to ensure your safety

Additional training

Due to extraordinary circumstances created by the Covid-19 pandemic, please be aware that we will of course honour any RED gift voucher that was still valid on 1st March 2020. All vouchers still valid on that date will remain valid until 1st October 2020 regardless of when they were purchased.
