Before your first lesson, you’ll attend a series of telephone-based 1-to-1 coaching and support sessions with our team — working through everything from managing your diary to delivering your first lesson with confidence. You’ll also attend a business seminar where we share best practices drawn from across our 1,850+ franchise business partners, giving you a running start from day one. And we don’t wait for your start date to fill your diary — students and scheduled lessons begin to be allocated to you in advance, so your first week is already taking shape before you’ve turned a wheel.

You’re on the road. Students are being placed in your diary, lessons are scheduled, and you’re delivering from day one. Your business development support continues — our team remain available by telephone and email throughout those crucial early weeks, keeping you on track, supporting great service and helping build your confidence. You’ll use our digital portal to track scheduled and delivered lessons, manage your diary and ensure every lesson is marked as delivered so you get paid on time, every time. Subject to your training course agreement, you could also be eligible for the first instalment of your training fees to be returned during this period — making those early weeks even more financially manageable.

By week three, the lessons you delivered in your first week start converting into real income. RED’s payment system automatically offsets your tuition earnings against your franchise fees — meaning instructor earnings cover their fees entirely, with the surplus paid directly into their bank account. The more students in your diary and the more lessons delivered, the more your income works for you.

Typically it takes around 6–7 weeks to establish a full-time diary, subject to immediate local demand and seasonality. After that point, we’d expect the cash flowing through your business to be starting to turn into the kind of profit you’d describe as a real income — and your reputation in your area will be growing with every student you pass.

If you’ve opted for the Trainee Licence route, in your first 12 weeks on the road you’ll receive 8 hours of 1-to-1 in-car training with your RED accredited expert trainer — real, practical coaching in live lesson conditions. Alongside that, you’ll receive 12 hours of live webinars to support your learning, development and technique as you build your teaching practice.

As your Part 3 test date approaches, you’ll receive a further 10 hours of 1-to-1 in-car coaching with your RED accredited expert trainer — this time specifically aligned to your test date and focused on maximising your success. Our 65–70% Part 3 success rate for PDIs who fully engage speaks for itself.

Passing your Part 3 is a huge milestone. You’re no longer training to become a driving instructor — you are one. With your full ADI qualification secured, you can focus on growing your business, building your reputation and helping more learners achieve the freedom that comes with passing their test.

And while your training journey may have reached its destination, your support from RED doesn’t stop. You’ll continue to have the backing of our team, our brand and our business infrastructure — helping you make the most of your qualification and build a driving instructor business you can be proud of.

RED’s franchise agreement terms are among the shortest available anywhere in the industry — and that’s entirely intentional. We have no interest in captive instructors. We want voluntary business partners who choose to be here because it’s working for them. Our 12-month agreement reflects our confidence in what we offer and our respect for your independence.

Agreements operate on automatic renewal for ease and continuity — so there’s no admin burden on you to keep things running smoothly. But our team will proactively reach out up to 12 weeks before your renewal date, giving you the space to have a real conversation — share feedback, raise questions, discuss your plans. It’s not a retention call. It’s a check-in from a team that genuinely wants to know how things are going. That’s the cooperative culture we’re proud of, and it’s one of the reasons so many of our instructors choose RED year after year.

Your second training fee refund instalment arrives. Your diary is established, your reputation is growing, and your earnings are building toward the typical RED instructor level of £35,000–£50,000 pre-tax per year*. Fleet training and additional career development opportunities are beginning to open up.

Your final training fee refund arrives, completing the full return of your training package costs*. Two years in, your initial investment has been paid back in full — with loyalty rewards growing every year you stay. Over 10% of our instructors have been with RED for more than a decade.
