FAQs

How long does it take to become a driving instructor?

There’s no fixed timeline for becoming an instructor, so how long it takes is a difficult question to answer. Delays from DBS checks, the DVSA and test waiting times can also make the process longer.

But, with better pass rates in all parts of the qualification course than DVSA reported averages, training with RED means you have a higher chance of success, therefore a better chance of qualifying quicker than other providers. Likewise, we offer a Fast Track option that can cut down the time to qualifying by 10-12 weeks.

Am I qualified to become a driving instructor?

You don’t need any prior qualifications to become a driving instructor. You just need to be over 21, have held your licence for at least 3 years, and have less than five penalty points on your licence.

Although they’re not prerequisites to applying, being organised, a good communicator, and willing to take initiative are some of the qualities that will help you succeed.

How much does it cost to become a driving instructor?

Training courses vary in price according to which option you choose. Our training course is £2,999 when you pay as you go, and you can save £450 if you choose to pay in full.

There are also further costs associated with the DVSA tests, as well as PDI and ADI license applications. Our dedicated recruitment advisors will guide you through all potential costs so you know what to expect.
