At RED we don’t just train driving instructors – we invest in people. We know that becoming a qualified driving instructor takes time, effort and dedication. That’s why it’s crucial to choose a provider who is fully committed to your success.

Our standard price is £2,999 for our full training course. You can choose either to pay in a single payment, or monthly instalments with a deposit:
With up to 74 hours of 1-to-1 practical training, RED provides more in-car training than nearly any other provider: delivering this level of training costs us more than your course fees, proving our commitment to your success. Find out more about our driving instructor course fees.
We offer some of the most comprehensive, high-quality training in the industry, including more in-vehicle hours than almost any other provider, delivered exclusively 1-to-1. RED’s course now includes up to 74 hours of training with a qualified RED Trainer.
When training to become an instructor with RED, you’ll have access to our ever–evolving, state-of-the-art learning resources, backed by what we believe is the UK’s largest, most experienced in-house back-office support team in driving instructor training.
RED-sponsored PDIs who fully engage with the programme and use all test attempts achieve a Part 3 success rate of 65–70%, which is over double the average of 30% national pass rate. Fewer resits means less delay and overall costs for you.
After passing Part 2, it replaces the standard Part 3 regional training, with a more immersive, classroom and in-car training schedule, providing a swifter route to the trainee licence.
Once you earn your PDI Licence, you’ll have access to over 100,000 students from RED’s own driving school, meaning you can hit the ground running and start earning straight away.
After passing Part 2 and completing 40 hours of training, you can join RED as a Potential Driving Instructor (PDI). This means you can start earning before qualifying.

Once you have successfully completed your training, joined and worked with RED Driving School as a franchisee for a qualifying period, we will refund your training fees (typically gradually over 24 months).
With over 60,000 new student enquiries each month and more than £45 million in pre-paid lessons in the last 12 months alone, RED generates more opportunities for instructors than any other provider.
As an instructor you’re backed by the expertise of over 100 full-time RED HQ staff and access to the most comprehensive marketing, financial, and business resources in the industry, you’ll never be left to fend for yourself. When you join us, you’ll also go on a business seminar, designed to make you more effective at managing your own business.
With over 1,850+ RED-branded cars on the road makes us one of the most recognised and trusted names in UK driver training. Cars provided by RED are fully insured, meaning you can focus on teaching with peace of mind.
When you join RED, you’ll benefit from exposure to RED’s industry reach, trade bodies and partners.

While student availability varies by location, RED maintains a strong presence across the UK all year round with demand at an all time high, making us one of the country’s most established driving schools. Franchise fees are invested back into the schools marketing campaigns, further helping to drive interest to learn with RED. Also, if lessons are of high quality, instructors will be able to gain from huge amounts of referrals and repeat bookings, offering you a constant supply of students.
Working under the RED franchise gives you the flexibility and independence of being self-employed, while also benefiting from the support and structure of an established brand. So yes you are said to be your own boss, allowing you to manage your own diary, choose your hours and take responsibility for your own business.
Your course fee covers structured training, but there are additional costs along the way, such as DVSA test and licence fees, and possibly others depending on your route. Our dedicated recruitment advisor will guide you through these costs from the start, so you know exactly what to expect.
While we don’t offer vague guarantees about pass rates, income, or how fast you’ll become qualified – and we caution you to question any provider that does. This is what we can promise: You won’t find better value for money or a better opportunity to succeed than with RED – both in qualifying as an ADI and in building a long-term, successful business.
The majority of RED’s training can be done in your local areas, although in some circumstances it will take place in a mutually convenient location. We would often advise you to train where you are taking your practical tests. Bear in mind, the course is not full-time and, because we work around your other commitments, some of your time will be spent studying at home. If you are taking part in our one-week fast track programme this is held at our Donington Training Centre.
