The aim of Autotests is to negotiate as quickly as possible a memorised, low-speed course without hitting any markers – it is all about car control.
Drivers compete on a set course – marked out by plastic cones. They tackle several tests, with multiple attempts at each. The driver with the lowest accumulated time is the winner, although penalties are incurred for hitting cones, failing to stop on a line, or for taking the wrong route.
You will receive a detailed pre-drive briefing before you take to the auto-test course.

A Caterham auto-test is a fun driving challenge where you negotiate a cone-marked low-speed course in a lightweight sports car, focusing on precision and control.
The experience is open to all drivers, including those who haven’t passed their test. But, if that’s the case, we insist that the driver is currently trained to a level where competent with car control. We will need evidence of this from a driving instructor.
Yes, participants must be at least 16 years old and have a minimum height of 1.4m.
The Caterham auto-test experience lasts around 1 ½ hours, with an introductory briefing plus drive time.
Yes, part of the experience includes around 15 minutes where you’ll be behind the wheel of the Caterham under instructor supervision.
