The test and driving regulations has changed over the years and at RED we really focus on ensuring that our learners are 100% confident and competent with independent driving.
Hi, I’m Melissa. I started my journey on becoming an ADI in December 2022, it took me just over a year to qualify.
I came from a totally different background before coming into the job. My husband and I was running a business for about 20 years and I’d worked in the same catering background for over 30 years. My husband decided he wanted to sell the business and take a break, therefore I decided I needed a career change.
The journey has been amazing, I have learnt a lot about myself and I love meeting people with different backgrounds and personalities. I’ve come to learn that I have qualities I didn’t know about, the patience and calmness that has been brought out in me are great qualities much needed with the job. I didn’t have 100% faith in myself and I wasn’t sure if I had it in me to become a ADI, but my trainer David with RED believed and trusted in me and helped me see it through to get that PASS. Without the support of my family and the amazing team at RED I’m not sure if I would have succeeded.
Being an ADI, having good communication skills will be a great quality, being able to adapt to each individual pupil will help the pupil progress. Everyday is a learning day, you learn from pupils and learn from different situations. The job is also very rewarding. Helping the pupil to be a safe and responsible driver is what I’m passionate about. As well as seeing them fulfil their aim, gaining their full driving licence, setting them on to a road of freedom and career opportunities is one of the best feeling.
My motto is, ‘Never give up on your dreams, if you give it 100% you will be rewarded in the end’.
