RED Driving School puts Absolute Radio team through their paces

The Absolute team, producer, Paul Sylvester, and presenter, Jo Russell, met up with RED Driving Instructor, Nigel Davies, who put them through their paces with a mock driving test in Tolworth, Surrey, one sunny afternoon in August.

The pair, who between them have over 20 years driving experience, took up the challenge after research was published stating that 50 per cent of drivers would struggle to pass their driving test if they were to take it again.

Jo was first to embark on the mock driving test, before Paul got behind the wheel feeling quietly confident in his ability, being the more frequent driver of the duo. Living and working in London, Jo admitted the last time she was behind the wheel was almost a year ago.

Nigel said: “I felt very safe being driven by both Paul and Jo; however they both suffered serious driving errors during the mock test. Consequently, had that been a real driving test, they would have both unfortunately received a fail.

“The good news is that they both have action points to take away with them to correct their bad driving habits and become better and safer road users in future.”

The test sheets showed that Paul received three serious driving faults and 13 minor errors, while Jo – the less experienced driver of the two – clocked up two serious faults and five minor errors.

Jo said: “Paul and I are hanging our heads in shame at our disastrous failure, especially as we both considered ourselves good drivers. The best thing to come out of this is that it clearly proves that women drivers are better than men. We’re going to take our lessons again!”
