RED DRIVING SCHOOL GIVES YOUNG SCOUTS A TASTE OF THE OPEN ROAD

RED DRIVING SCHOOL GIVES YOUNG SCOUTS A TASTE OF THE OPEN ROAD

RED Driving School gave youngsters a taste of freedom this weekend by partnering up with the RAC and the Scout Association, at the annual Scouts Wintercamp in Gilwell Park, Essex.

The event was attended by over 3,000 Scouts and Explorer Scouts from across the UK, and as part of a host of activities on offer, RED ran a six car driving school which allowed attendees between the ages of 10 and 18 to get behind the wheel in a controlled environment and learn some driving skills in an off-road area.

Ian McIntosh, RED Driving School’s CEO and a former Scout commented: “We support the Scout Association’s values and are really proud to offer the youngsters the opportunity to get behind the wheel in a safe off-road environment. Our six car driving school operated over the course of the weekend and offered hundreds of Scouts and Explorers a fun learning experience. By starting the driver training process early, the learning period is extended which ultimately leads to safer drivers.”

Seven RED Instructors were involved on the day, many of whom are part of the Scouting fraternity, including Marco Lecca, a Scout Leader in South West London, who says: “The children all really enjoyed the day and getting behind the wheel of a car for the first time caused lots of excitement. Of course the emphasis of the day was road safety and you can’t be too young to learn the importance of road safety awareness.”
Richard Keeber, an ex-Scout leader from Folkstone, Martin Godden from Chingford, Emad Elsayed from Harlow, Kamel Elkomaty from Enfield, Mark Derham from Telford and Helen Roffey, from Orpington were the other RED Driving School instructors who supported the event.

McIntosh continues, “As the driving school partner for the RAC, we were delighted they invited us to lead this initiative and look forward to working with more youth groups in 2016 as we aim to build a greater awareness of road safety in the UK, amongst road users of all ages.”
