RED for Heroes

RED instructors on the Siverstone race track

Last week RED Driving School teamed up with Help for Heroes to give the war veterans a driving track experience at Silverstone. The aim was to help build confidence of those who applied and won a place, enabling them get comfortable behind the wheel of a car again. Both the participants and our instructors had huge amounts of fun – one participant hadn’t driven a car for fifty years!

Prior to the event, through Motorsport Endeavor potential attendees submitted their applications in order to get their place on the day. The day itself kicked off with a practice drive in the car park area next to the Silverstone track. Though the best part of the day came later – with the attendees and instructors taking to one of the most challenging circuits in the UK

Silverstone race track, Kjallgren Courage C26S

We received so many requests prior to the event, from instructors wanting to participate and we’d like to thank those who were there on the day; Ruth, Andy and Gerry (and our attendees can’t thank them enough).

One participant said after the event:

The instructors were amazing. Friendly, confident and so willing to give their time and skills to this cause. (even though they did challenge me to drive round the circuit blindfolded!)”

It was an extremely rewarding experience for all of us and we met some remarkable people. In our Get Road REDdy campaign, we will be looking to support more initiatives like this to make the roads safer and more accessible for all.
